Chocolate Chip - Orange Scones

Since the weather is so nice outside and being the baker that I am, Chocolate Chip ~ Orange Scones just seemed perfect. Not to mention that orange and milk chocolate compliment each other so well and completely satisfied my craving.

Recipe:
4 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 - 3 tablespoons orange zest (2 oranges)
3 sticks cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup heavy cream
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups semisweet or milk chocolate chips

Glaze:
Juice of 2 oranges
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon Grand Marnier (optional)

Make the scones: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar and orange zest in a bowl. Beat in the butter with a mixer on low speed, then raise the speed to high and beat until the mixture is in coarse crumbles.
Whisk the heavy cream, eggs and vanilla extract in another bowl, then stir into the flour mixture until just combined. Stir in the pecans; do not overmix.

Dump out dough onto floured board. Flour pin and roll out dough to 1 inch think. Using a round cookie cutter, cut 3 inch circle scones. Sprinkle the tops with sugar and bake until golden brown, 15 to 17 minutes. Meanwhile, make the glaze: Whisk freshly squeezed orange juice and sugar in a sauce pan over medium low heat. Stir occasionally and reduce to 1/2 cup. Off the heat stir in Grand Marnier. Slightly cool and drizzle over the scones while still slightly warm.
