War of the Cupcakes

A cupcake. The perfect size and just the right amount of frosting. Not too much, but not too little. Wrapped like a package and usually worthy enough to eat without a fork. But the battle begins when cupcakes compete with other cupcakes. Whose cupcakes are more inventive? Who makes the best carrot cake cupcake or the best red velvet? So many things to think about, cupcakes are more complex than the average person may understand.

Here are a few guidelines in determining whose cupcake is best:
  1. The Cake: Moist or Dry? Flavorful or Bland? Think to yourself: Can I eat this cake all by itself, without frosting, and be perfectly happy? Is it that good?
  2. The Frosting: Just right? Too sugary? Too buttery? The perfect combination of the finest and best ingredients can make the perfect frosting, as if it was whipped and piped just for that one cupcake.
  3. The Whole Package: Is the cake and frosting a cohesive unit? Do the flavors compliment each other? Or, are they completely opposite for each other.
Additional Factors:
  • The Bakery: Are they innovative? Constantly thinking of new flavors, new combination's?
  • Traffic Flow: Well known? Is it a popular place? Do people in town recommend them versus some other bakery?
  • Is the packaging prettier than the cupcake actually tastes?
Let's take some cupcakes to the battle field and determine the outstanding from the average!

Truly Madly Sweetly

Cupcakes:
  • Heartthrob: southern red velvet cupcake topped with our dense cream cheese frosting
  • Love Bunny - moist carrot cupcake bursting with fresh carrots, pineapple and pecans topped with our dense and delightful cream cheese frosting
Every single time Danny and I drive in or out of our hometown we stop by this cute lil cupcake shop. We usually get Heartthrob and Love Bunny, plus a few others.
  • Heartthrob: Moist red velvet. Delicious cream cheese frosting, beautifully pipped on top of the cupcake.
  • Love Bunny: Great carrot cake and the same cream cheese frosting as the Heartthrob. Good texture. Not to rich, moist and just the right touch of spice in the cake.
  • Sweet packaging with just the right touch of elegance. A sophisticated bakery that fills like home at the same time.

The Cupcakery

Cupcakes:
  • Southern Belle: Sumptuous red velvet cake smothered with cream cheese frosting
  • Bugsy: Tasty carrot cake topped with luscious cream cheese frosting
After a day of shopping Danny dropped in this bakery and surprised me with these delicious treats. A fun bakery for kids and adults alike, but just on the edge of a gourmet cupcake.

  • Southern Belle: A great red velvet that was voted best in Las Vegas. Moist and a light cream cheese frosting.
  • Bugsy: Flavor packed carrot cake. You can see all the carrot, nuts and spices in the cake. Packed with cinnamon and a nice texture.

With everything in consideration and many taste tests later, the winner is ......

Truly Madly Sweetly

A close race to the finish line, this bakery is truly, madly and sweetly the best cupcakes I have had to date. From the fine details to the whole package, these cupcakes are not only beautiful, well thought out, but just plain delicious. The cream cheese frosting is to die for. Even though I did enjoy the competitors, it was just too light... good, but too light.

It was a tight race, but it's all in the finished product. Thank you to both competitors for cupcakes, I enjoyed being the judge.
