Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream

Chocolate can be a girls best friend that satisfies that littlest of cravings. This ice cream recipe definitely fulfills one big craving of mine. Cold, creamy, and chocolatey with a hint of coffee and chunks of brownie. It tastes better than it sounds.

Recipe
2 1/2 cups half & half
1/2 heavy cream
6 egg yolks
2/3 cups sugar
1 tbsp cocoa powder, unsweetened (preferably dutch processed)
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups brownie chucks (about 4 brownies)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp coffee, strongly brewed

In a saucepan warm half & half with heavy cream over medium low heat. Meanwhile, in a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment combine and mix egg yolks, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Once the milk mixture forms bubbles around the edges of the pan and has steam coming from the top turn the heat off. Don't let the milk boil. Slowly pour milk into the mixture while the mixer is on low speed. Then pour back into the saucepan over medium low heat and continually stir until it has thickened. In another bowl combine brownies with vanilla and coffee. Add milk mixture, stir and place in the refrigerator for about 2 hours. Once it has completely chilled pour into a ice cream mixer until it thickened and looks like ice cream. Store in a freezer safe container and enjoy as you please.
